The “Mother Church” of Nassau County had its first Mass in 1840. In 1851, a farmhouse was purchased and converted to the first church. In 1856, the church was dedicated to St. Brigid of Kildare. In 1895, the second church was dedicated. It moved across the street in 1918 and was converted to the first school. It then became St. Anthony’s Hall. The third and present St. Brigid’s Church was completed in 1916. In 1924, the rectory and a convent were built. The convent is now the Schaefer Center. The present school (St. Brigid/Our Lady of Hope Regional School on Maple Avenue) was built in 1955 and expanded in 1965.
St. Brigid’s is the first Roman Catholic Church of Nassau County by date, and it is first in the hearts and minds of the people who pray here.

Historia de la Parroquia
La "Iglesia Madre" del condado de Nassau celebró su primera misa en 1840. En 1851, se compró una granja y se convirtió en la primera iglesia. En 1856, la iglesia fue dedicada a Santa Brígida de Kildare. En 1895 se consagró la segunda iglesia. En 1918 se trasladó al otro lado de la calle y se convirtió en la primera escuela. Después se convirtió en el St. Anthony's Hall. La tercera y actual iglesia de Santa Brígida se terminó en 1916. En 1924 se construyeron la rectoría y un convento.
